Director/Choreographer, Janet Roston ( works in theater, commercials, film, television, corporate shows and world tours. Janet directed/choreographed the innovative Rock Opera, shAme, based on The Scarlet Letter at the alternative space, The King King Nightclub in Hollywood. shAme played to packed houses and received glowing reviews. She was the director/choreographer for Walk’n Thru the Fire at The Hayworth Theater written and starring John Di Fusco (author of the seminal Vietnam play Tracers) and directed/choreographed Possession: The Legend of El Rojo at the Unknown Theater. Working in all forms of live performance, Janet developed and directed, The Tiger Claw Elite, a martial arts show for Disney’s Wide World of Sports featuring world-class martial artists, as well as many corporate shows and the world tour of country music artists, Lonestar. She has directed music videos for Jamie Kennedy (1984 for Kickin’ It Old Skool) and Bollywood artist Sammy Chand (Dil Mungdi for MTV India); many PSA’s and commercials and regularly creates music videos for her company, Dance Heads ( Janet was selected for The Lincoln Center Director’s Lab West 2007.
As a choreographer Janet’s theater credits include Tracers and Avenue X at the Odyssey Theater (Ovation Award Nominee), Once On This Island (NAACP Nomination), and Bed and Sofa at the International City Theater and Nite Club Confidential at the Tiffany Theater (L.A. Weekly Award). She recently created choreography for the musical Footloose at the Rubicon Theater in Ventura. Her choreography has been presented in London at the Royal Academy of Music and in Cannes at the Theatre de la Licorne. The Tanjore Project, her choreography which fused Indian Bharat Natyam, Hip-Hop and Contemporary styles, won the Muse 100 Award from the Palm Desert Choreography Festival. Janet received the Choreography Media Award for a series of San Miguel Beer commercials and an American Choreography Award for the in-theater promo, Balance, for KCRW. She has choreographed numerous commercials (Motorola, Barbie, Wendy’s, Formula 409, PBS Kids), and is the series choreographer for The New Adventures of Old Christine.
